Index movement this week

Nifty and Sensex traded in a relatively narrow range through the week, with IT and banking stocks driving most of the day-to-day movement. Broader mid-cap and small-cap indices were somewhat more volatile than the large-cap benchmarks.

Gold

Gold held steady, continuing to trade as a stabilising component in diversified portfolios during a week of otherwise mixed index performance.

What this means for a SIP investor

Short-term index movement over a single week has very little bearing on a long-horizon SIP. The point of a SIP is precisely that it doesn’t require reacting to weeks like this one - it continues on schedule regardless of whether the week was up or flat.
